What an Interlock® aluminum roof is
An Interlock® roof is made of interlocking aluminum panels, each locked to its neighbours on all four sides with the fasteners concealed under the panel above. Nothing is screwed through the weather surface. The panels are stamped to look like slate, cedar shingle, shake or tile, or rolled as standing seam.
The panels are made in Canada by Interlock Roofing at its plant in Delta, BC. Across BC they are installed by our own company, Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd., a Canadian owned and operated BC company founded in 1983, from the same Delta address.

Why aluminum, for a roof in BC
Wet coastal winters
From Metro Vancouver to the Island and the Sunshine Coast, a roof spends most of the winter wet. Cedar holds that water and softens; asphalt granules trap the debris moss grows in. Aluminum absorbs nothing and cannot rot. Valleys and gutters still collect needles and leaves, so we'll tell you what to clear and how often.
Salt air on the coast and islands
Waterfront homes on the coast, the Island and the Gulf Islands take salt spray all year. Aluminum does not rust, so salt air doesn't do to it what it does to steel.
Okanagan and Thompson summers
The Interior's summers are hot and dry, with long fire seasons. Class A is available on our roofs as a complete assembly (two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood, per ASTM E108), and aluminum does not ignite. FireSmart BC calls the house and the first 1.5 m around it the most critical zone, because that is where embers reach the roof, gutters and vents.
Interior and mountain snow
Sea-to-Sky, the Interior and the upland slopes get real snow. A metal roof sheds it, so snow guards over entries, decks and driveways go in at the estimate, and the light panels leave the framing's capacity for the snow load the BC Building Code sets for the location.
The profiles, and what homeowners in BC choose
Five aluminum profiles: Slate (the most popular), Cedar Shingle, Shake, Mediterranean Tile and Standing Seam, plus solid copper for bays, porches and accents. Every profile needs a minimum 3/12 slope.
In our job book the most common profiles across BC are Slate (1,095), Cedar Shingle (458), Shake (325).

How a roof gets done
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Consultation | On Zoom (most BC homeowners choose it) or at your home. We go through profiles and colours, look at photos of roofs like yours, and answer questions. |
| 2. Measure and inspect | We measure the roof and check what's on it now. Cedar, concrete tile and natural slate always come off; a single layer of asphalt can be roofed over only if the inspection finds it suitable. |
| 3. Fixed price in writing | Anything the inspection finds goes into the written quote before you sign, not into a change order later. Strata roofs: we bring the documents the council will ask for. |
| 4. Installation | Our own BC installers, to the manufacturer's specification, with flashing, ventilation and snow guards as planned. |
| 5. Warranties registered | The Guardian material warranty and our labour warranty, with our BC service team after the job. |

Questions, answered
Who installs aluminum roofing in BC?
Interlock Metal Roofing (BC) Ltd. installs the Interlock® aluminum roofing system across British Columbia from its office at 9969 River Way, Delta, the same address as the plant that makes the panels. The company was founded in 1983 and installs every roof itself. Call (604) 210-3850.
Is aluminum roofing good for BC weather?
Aluminum doesn't rust, absorbs no water and cannot rot, so rain, moss and salt air have nothing to work on, and its smooth surface sheds snow. Valleys and gutters still need clearing of needles and leaves, and ice damming is a stated exclusion of the material warranty, so we look at ventilation with you.
Is an aluminum roof better than a steel roof?
They are both metal roofs, but steel depends on its zinc or aluminum-zinc coating to keep from rusting, and aluminum has no steel to rust. Aluminum is also about a third the weight. Steel roofing usually costs less up front. Our steel vs aluminum guide sets out the differences.
How much does an aluminum roof cost in BC?
It depends on the roof's area, pitch and complexity, what comes off, the profile and options such as the Class A assembly. Our metal roof cost guide shows real price ranges from our own BC contracts, and we give your fixed price in writing after one free visit.
Can an aluminum roof go over my asphalt shingles?
Sometimes: a single layer of asphalt can be roofed over only if our inspection finds it suitable. Cedar shakes, concrete tile and natural slate always come off first.
Can the consultation be done on Zoom?
Yes, and most BC homeowners choose it: we go through the roof, the profiles and the colours with you on screen. Book online or call (604) 210-3850.
How long does an aluminum roof last?
Aluminum has been known to last over 100 years. That is a property of the metal, not a promise; what is in writing is the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty, the 30 Year Alunar® Coating Warranty and our 10 Year Limited Labour Warranty.
