What a BC winter does to a roof, and what interlocked aluminum does about it.
Built for months of rain, not a few storms
On the coast a roof spends most of the winter wet. Cedar holds that water and softens; asphalt granules trap the organic debris moss grows in. Aluminum absorbs nothing and rot is not possible. Debris still collects in valleys and gutters, so we'll tell you what to clear and how often rather than call the roof maintenance-free.
Locked on four sides, with no fastener in the weather
Winter windstorms on the coast and outflow winds in the Fraser Valley lift loose edges and exposed screw heads. Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides with the fasteners concealed. Wind resistance is warranted to 193 km/h (120 mph) installed to manufacturer specification.
Class A Fire Rated Available — as a complete assembly
Worth being precise about: under ASTM E108 a fire classification belongs to an assembly, not a panel. Class A is available on our roofs, achieved with two layers of GAF VersaShield® over 12 mm (15/32-inch) plywood. Aluminum itself does not ignite. If your home is in a wildland-urban interface area, ask us to walk the whole roof edge with you; embers find gutters, vents and gaps, not just shingles.
Light enough for older framing and mountain snow
Interlock panels weigh roughly 2 to 3.5 kg per square metre depending on profile, a fraction of concrete tile. That leaves the structure's capacity for what it is really there for in the Sea-to-Sky and the interior: snow.

Up to 95% recycled content, and the last tear-off your house is likely to need.
